Service to the Association

The Service to the Alumni Association Award went to Beatrice Carpenter Blackman ’55 of Wynnewood, PA. This award was established to recognize those alumnae and alumni who have provided dedicated service over the years to the Alumni Association through leadership positions, initiation of programs, commitment to membership recruitment, and support of Harcum College.  While at Harcum, Blackman was active in numerous campus activities including, the Community Government Association, of which she was President in her senior year. After graduating from Harcum, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Beaver College (now Arcadia University) and later went on for her Master of Arts in Biochemistry at Bryn Mawr College. She spent her career in biomedical research and continues to serve as a consultant medical writer.

Blackman was elected to the Harcum College Board of Trustees in 1976. She chairs the Academic and Student Affairs Committee and was recently the Trustees’ representative to the College’s Middle States Steering Committee that led Harcum’s successful reaccreditation efforts. She has been active in Harcum College alumni matters since completing her education, and serves on the National Alumni Board.
