The Harcum family pulled together by June 30 to make the $100,000 Little Theatre matching gift challenge a resounding success! Donors from across the campus and the country enabled Harcum to exceed its goal in less than two months.

“We are deeply grateful to all of our donors,” said President Jon Jay DeTemple; “every gift counted, both large and small, and the number of donors exceeded all expectation.”

In a message to Harcum’s Board of Trustees, President DeTemple announced that the outpouring of support from trustees, alumni, faculty and staff, and the broader community inspired Kathryn Quarles, an alumna from the class of 1949, to generously contribute to fund the remainder of The Challenge Grant. Her contribution provides additional funds that may be used to endow arts programming at Harcum, and to support arts education.

Renovation will begin as soon as possible, as Harcum’s next challenge is to “raise the curtain” on the Kevin D. Marlo Theatre before the holidays. “It’s a mighty task,” said DeTemple, “but we have proven that we can respond positively.”

The College and the family of the late Kevin D. Marlo thank each person who contributed to the restoration of this beautiful, historical facility. Thanks to their generosity, the Little Theatre will once again be a vibrant home for creativity on campus.
